Last month saw the second annual Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge come to Michigan, and there was something special for all kinds of car enthusiasts. Over 30,000 performance car fans participated in the festival, and Dodge automakers wanted to provide something extra special for the occasion. So for nine amazing hours, the event turned a stretch of the historic Woodward Avenue into a strip for drag racing – the first legal drag racing the street has ever seen. Competitors came from all over the Midwest to enjoy the opportunity of legal street racing, and of course, for their chance at some of the $19,000 in prizes.
It wasn’t just the race that drew car fans, though. Over 1,000 vehicles drove in just for a chance to participate in the car show. And festival participants had a chance to join professional drivers on a drifting course and experience the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, and Dodge Viper for themselves. But when the time came for the race, that’s when Dodge models of all stripes had a chance to really shine. Over 350 vehicles participated on the 1/8 mile course. And in a testament to the history and quality of Dodge vehicles from any era, the winner of the $10,000 top prize drove a 1969 Dodge Charger, powered by a more modern 5.6-liter Gen 2 HEMI V8.
It may be a while before Michigan drivers have a chance to legally street race again, but that doesn’t mean our customers can’t enjoy some of the fun and excitement of racing. Visit us today to experience the rush of a true performance car with a test drive of a 2016 Dodge Charger or 2016 Dodge Challenger.
